Every Person is Precious - That's Why Safety Matters

Our Public Statement of Commitment to Child Safety

K&C Farmstays is committed to upholding the highest standards of child safety in all aspects of its operations. We believe that every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and empowered. As a Respite, STA and Specialised Substitute Residential Care provider, we embed child-safe practices across our governance, staffing, care delivery, and community engagement.

Our approach is grounded in:
- Respecting children’s rights and actively involving them in decisions about their care.
- Providing culturally safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for children from all backgrounds.
- Recruiting, training, and supervising staff to uphold our Code of Conduct and child safety policies.
- Ensuring transparency, accountability, and prompt response to any complaints or concerns.
- Working in partnership with families and other professionals to prioritise children’s wellbeing and development.

All staff and volunteers are bound by our policies and expected to report concerns, support children’s voices, and continuously improve their practices.

Child safety is not just a compliance requirement—it is a core value at the heart of everything we do.

Participant Safety

At K&C Farmstays, we believe every person is precious— regardless of age or ability.
That’s why safety and wellbeing are at the heart of all we do on the farm or in community. We are committed to providing a secure, nurturing environment where people can thrive, explore, and feel safe. Because when people matter most, safety matters too.

Your Safety Comes First Even Before You Arrive

At K&C Farmstays, your wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. As a dedicated short-term accommodation and respite provider for people of all ages living with a disability, we go above and beyond to ensure a safe, supportive and joyful experience — starting well before you set foot on our farm.

Preparing the Property for Peace of Mind

Before each stay, we conduct thorough checks and implement tailored safety measures across the farm. This includes:

  • Clear Signage: Easy-to-understand, accessible signage is placed throughout the property to guide, inform and protect. Whether it’s marking animal zones, identifying safe paths, or pointing out quiet spaces, our signs help make the farm safer and more navigable for everyone.

  • Animal Training: Where possible our farm animals are carefully selected and trained for calm, predictable behaviour around guests. We prioritise interactions that are both enriching and secure.

  • Environment & Cottage Preparation: We continuously maintain and adapt our facilities to meet diverse accessibility and sensory needs, ensuring a safe and inclusive setting for every visitor. The cottage is also set up and customised to meet the needs and make safety a priority for our participants.

Trusted, Qualified Staff & Carers

Our team is made up of passionate, professional carers and disability support workers who receive ongoing training in safety, behaviour support, and inclusive care. Every staff member:

  • Holds a valid Working With Children Check
  • Has completed a National Police Check
  • Is fully First Aid qualified, including CPR

Each team member also adheres to our strict Code of Conduct, which outlines expectations around respect, accountability, and safe practices.

Individual Risk Assessments

Safety isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why we complete a Risk Assessment for every participant prior to their arrival. This personalised planning process allows us to understand your specific needs, abilities and goals — and to adapt the environment and supports accordingly.

Voluntary Risk Waiver for Adventure Activities

We know that connection with nature and animals brings joy, confidence, and a sense of adventure. For guests who wish to interact with our friendly animals, paddle a kayak, take part in other farm experiences or enjoy water sports, we offer a Voluntary Risk Waiver.

This form provides detailed information about the nature of each activity. It empowers you to make informed decisions and give consent where you feel comfortable — while we continue to manage and reduce risk wherever possible.

At K&C Farmstays, we believe safety is not just a checklist — it’s a culture. From detailed planning to qualified staff, we’re committed to providing a secure and empowering farmstay experience for all.

If you have any specific needs or questions before your visit, we welcome you to get in touch with our team.
